Our History
Wood-Lawn’s original nursing home was built in 1964 and has always been a non-profit organization. The facility was originally called Independence County Nursing Home and was renamed Wood-Lawn Nursing Home in 1976. Wood-Lawn has been governed by a volunteer board of directors who advises and oversees the operations of the facility.
In the 1990’s Wildewood Independent Living center was built under the Wood-Lawn Umbrella. Wildewood offers independent living apartments that provide meals, transportation, and social activities for seniors at affordable rates. The Wood-Lawn corporation has continued to grow and expand with the goal of providing quality care in a caring environment to address the varying needs of our senior citizens.
In 2013, a new state of the art skilled nursing facility was built to replace the original outdated building; and was re-named Wood-Lawn Heights. The new Wood-Lawn Heights building was constructed across the street from the original building.
In 2016 the old building was torn down and replaced with an Assisted Living Community called Woodcrest Assisted Living. The goal for the Woodcrest Community is to provide nursing services for seniors who need more help than is provided in our independent living center but are not yet ready for the skilled nursing services provided at Wood-Lawn Heights.
The Wood-Lawn, Inc. umbrella now consists of a complete range of care services, from independent living, to assisted living, to skilled nursing care. Whatever your level of need may be, we are here to serve.
